Papers, [ca.1946]-[ca.1973].

The Samuel Engelhardt papers 1948-1973, contain a variety of information concerning Englehart's active political career and his personal life. Correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs and printed materials relate to the 1960 U.S. presidential election, his tenure in the Alabama House of Representatives, Alabama Senate, and to his service as director of the Alabama Association of White Citizens Councils. Included is correspondence with prominent Alabama politicians and state officials. Financial information, office memoranda, speeches and correspondence relate to his term as highway director and to his campaign for governor in 1962. Additional correspondence with family members as well as family photographs and financial information is also included.

Samuel Engelhardt, a farmer and merchant in Macon County (Ala.), was a prominent Alabama politician who served in the State House of Representatives from 1950-1954 and in the State Senate from 1954-1958.
